Alfa Slab one can be seen as a modernized take on Robert Thorne’s 1921 Six-Lines Egyptian designed for Thorowgood Foundry by Alfa Slab A1. Based upon this design, A1 featured large serifs with additional contrast in its stem, and gradual terminals featuring only one serif – all elements present in Alfa Slab One. But with its modernized take, featuring large serifs with extra contrast in stem and gradual terminals featuring only one serif, Alfa Slab One creates an entirely different appearance.
