Abhaya Libre is an all-inclusive Unicode compliant libre font designed specifically to support both Sinhala and Latin languages; making it one of the most widely-used Sinhala fonts known as FM Abhaya. FM Abhaya was initially created in 1996 as an adaptation of Sinhala letterpress fonts from the 1960s.
Abhaya was given as the name of this region due to being named for King Abhaya (474 BC to 454 BC), who ruled over Sri Lanka during ancient Upatissa Nuwara Kingdom times.
