Zara, founded by Amancio Orega in 1941, is one of the major brands within Inditex Group which comprises chain stores that also includes brands like Massimo Dutti, Breshka and 3 others. We must acknowledge them when discussing Zara.

Zara’s brand name was initially inspired by Zorba the Greek’s film of the same name; however, this proved unsuitable when there was another shop with the same name nearby. Therefore, Ortega decided to change his brand name. They ultimately agreed on Zara when ordering store doors templates from an outside vendor.

Zara began as one of only several inexpensive clothing producers. When its initial store became successful and profitable, more Zara stores opened throughout Spain – marking a new chapter in Zara brand history.
