Istok Font Family

Istok Web is an original typeface. It has been in development from since 2008. Some basic letters were based on specially modified METAFONT sources from the TeX community font family by the name of CM Bright. (METAFONT is very flexible technology.) at bottom but in fact thok fonts are now very far from this origin.

Most of the font’s contours are designed in FontForge, a freely distributable font editor. Almost every glyph is manually hinted so as to best render it on LCD screens, with xgridfit being used as a tool for generating TrueType instructions.

Less frequent symbols are autohinted by FontForge until manual hinting is possible. Manual and automatic instructions are designed to look effectively the same.
