Work Sans is a family of typefaces loosely inspired by earlier Grotesques. Famous examples from designers such as Stephenson Blake, Miller & Richard and Bauerschen Giesserei can all be found within this family. Regular and other weights falling between regular and extreme are designed for medium-sized texts (14px from 48px to 14px), making them easily printable.
Fonts with extreme weights were specifically developed for print and web use with simplified features tailored specifically to screen resolutions. Example of diacritic marks being more prominent than their printed equivalent. They can still be printed, though, and do the Job Sans project page on Github offers one version optimized for desktop-based apps.
